How long have you been working for RareJob Philippines, Inc.?

avatar

Ian

Information Design Specialist

I have been with RareJob since September 2012, starting out as a part-time tutor evaluator. On the side, I was also able to produce marketing and training videos for the company as an outsourced freelance videographer. I remained as an evaluator until February 2017, when I became a full-time staff.

Upon my advancement as a full-time staff, I was transferred to a newly-organized team where I focused on producing training and orientation materials. In April 2018, my team started to focus more on producing marketing materials such as ads and social media posts. I am currently serving in the company as an Information Design Specialist.

What made you choose RareJob as your company?

avatar

Ian

Information Design Specialist

RareJob was referred to me by a close friend and I started with the intention of just earning and saving, not really staying very long in the company. It was only when I had already started working here that I realized that RareJob, being a fresh new company at that time, had a lot going for it and had a very promising future ahead.

As part of the team in charge of marketing and design, can you give me a brief background regarding your tasks and responsibilities?

avatar

Ian

Information Design Specialist

Our team is basically a communication arm of RareJob that deals with interacting with tutors and potential tutors through means of visual and audio-visual media. We are primarily responsible for establishing the RareJob brand, overseeing brand marketing and public relations for the company’s PH side. Alongside this, we also provide video, photography, and graphic design services internally.

Ian got his interest in photography at a very young age from his father, who worked as a professional photographer.

A couple times, you lent your photography skills to capture pictures for our blogs. How did you come to like photography?

avatar

Ian

Information Design Specialist

I developed an interest in photography and video very early in my life. My father worked as a photographer and documentarian in various government agencies when I was really young and he would sometimes lend me his equipment to try them out. I became more engaged in videography later on. I just find it very interesting how photography enables us to capture moments in time; it is a tool we can use to preserve meaningful memories.

You deal with art a whole lot, whether it’s for corporate design, AVPs and publication materials. What does it take to be part of your team?

Ian

Information Design Specialist

To become part of IDT, you must not just be artistically inclined, but you also need to be very knowledgeable in digital art tools and various editing software. It takes a high level of creativity and skill in conceptualizing, researching, planning, and producing a design output. You must also be open to new trends and various design techniques and methods.

You and your team have been part of many initiatives and projects. Which one do you think is the most challenging?

avatar

Ian

Information Design Specialist

So far, I think the most challenging project I was involved in was 2018’s Dekada – RareJob’s 10th Anniversary. It demanded the efforts of all members of IDT and all our skills and resources were maximized. I was entrusted the task of creating the company’s first official corporate video. Despite it being a challenging project for all of us, it was also a very refreshing experience. We developed confidence in our ability as a team to meet the industry standard when it comes to graphic and audio-visual design.

How do you keep yourself sharp and up to date when it comes to photography and design?

avatar

Ian

Information Design Specialist

I always see to it that I keep myself familiar with the current trends in photography and video production, and it is now easier to do with the help of social media and the Internet. I also challenge myself by doing art projects during my spare time. Visual art is not only my work, it is also my hobby.

There may be some applicants out there who are also interested in integrating art in their professional life; what message would you like for them to know when entering this field?

While it is important to be creative, it is equally as important to be in touch with the client. It would be helpful if you provide creative input on the client’s request, but in the end, it’s the client who decides how things should be. You must also be mindful of deadlines. Always seek for inspiration in every project you will be in so you will be able to maximize your creativity and give your client the best output very time.
