When we say Operations Support, we automatically think of the usual customer service in a BPO industry and the like, but what does this position entail when in an online ESL setting?
We sat down with one of RareJob’s Support Associates to shed light on this matter and show what being in Operations Support is all about. Follow the interview between our employees, Tala from the Talent Acquisition Team and Belle from the Operations Support Team below:

What is your current position in RareJob PH? What are your roles and responsibilities?
Belle
Operations Support Associate
I am currently an Operations Support Associate. My main job is to answer inquiries from tutors, help them with concerns related to lessons, schedules, or accounts. Other than that, my position puts me in the front lines, directly coordinating with both tutors and Japanese counterparts.

What are the factors that made you choose RJPH as your employer and why apply specifically as a Support Associate?

The moment I stepped into the office for my job interview, I immediately felt comfortable and at home. RareJob offers a great working environment with nice co-workers and perks, such as free lunch.
Apart from that, the environment within the company gives a lot of freedom to the employees in terms of self-expression and creativity, and I feel that I can be myself without the fear of being judged.

How long have you been working here as a Support Associate and what were the factors that made you stay for that long?

I have been with RareJob since January 2018. I feel very comfortable with the culture, especially with the friends I’ve made along the way. RareJob gives me a lot of opportunities to hone my skills through a diverse set of tasks, like data analysis and workforce management.
It’s easy to feel motivated as I immediately see how my efforts contribute to the company.

How different is RareJob’s Support Associate position compared to the Customer Service position from BPO companies?
Belle
Operations Support Associate
I am not entirely familiar with how Customer Support Representative positions in other BPO companies work, but in RareJob, Support Associates work directly with RareJob and not with assigned clients. I feel a deeper sense of belongingness to the company, since the services I render are truly being utilized by my company for growth.

Can you share with us a challenging situation that you’ve handled as Support Associate? How did you resolve the situation, and what was the outcome?
Belle
Operations Support Associate
As a Support Associate, you’re bound to encounter different types of personalities, whether within the office or online. I’m an introvert, so it was quite hard for me to adjust in terms of talking to different types of people with different attitudes and characteristics, but I was able to overcome this with the help of my teammates and other co-workers.
Now, I can communicate with other people better, and I have learned how to adjust my word choices, tone, and manner of speaking depending on the situation.

What skills do you think an applicant must possess in order to perform the job well?

I think that having good communication and people skills, as well as willingness to learn are very important soft skills for a Support Associate to possess.

I have learned how to adapt better to different personalities and different situations. I think adaptability is important since, more than technical skills, it is a character trait that will really be useful wherever you go. I have also developed resourcefulness and a greater sense of responsibility as an employee in RJPH.
