Not Your Usual Valentine’s: Strengthening Bonds through Company Events

by Bea Pico | February 18, 2025

Behind The Scenes

Last February 14, 2025, RareJob PH celebrated Valentine’s Day, but with a twist: a fun-filled, hybrid event that had both online and in-office games! In an unconventional take on the usual day of hearts, fun and competition take the front seat in this company event as RJPH employees go toe to toe in various games.

One of our players, Senior Engagement Associate Bea Pico, was able to attend both the in-office and onsite activities, even bagging some wins for herself! As someone who works with events, let’s do a deep dive into Bea’s experience in RareJob PH, as well as her insights on the importance of company activities.

I have been with RareJob for around 8 years. I started as a part-time staff in 2017, and became a full-time employee in 2020.

Can you share with us what a typical day as a Senior Engagement Associate is like?

After I time in, I usually backread chats and tasks in team group chats, address inquiries from other teams, and check my calendar for scheduled/requested meetings. Then I distribute my tasks for the day accordingly. After this, I proceed to finish some of my daily tasks before focusing on projects and events.

As you’ve experienced working onsite, online, and hybrid in RareJob PH, how do you think did the changing work setup affect the innovation for company events?

The online events following the transition to WFH were not that different from what I used to experience in the previous office lobby pre-pandemic: same energy, same exciting activities. Of course, I missed the buzzing crowd while enjoying the events face to face.

It was a bit of a challenge for bigger events like our online year-end parties mostly due to technical difficulties and activity participation, but they were still enjoyable! As someone who works with events in our team, I understand how hard it is to put together an event where everything has to be communicated through the screen, even the vibe and atmosphere. Kudos to the organizers for being flexible in adapting to the circumstances!

As someone who was able to experience Valentine’s Day celebrations onsite and online, what were the most memorable parts of the events for you?

For the on-site activities, I joined the dalgona candy challenge and the one with the needle and thread. I know that rushing to complete the tasks will just make my hands shake harder and thus make it more difficult for me, so I took my time, and that paid off for me haha. I even did a heart pose with the pink guard, PAK!

For the online event, I’m really happy they performed two of my song requests in the line-up, haha!

Why do you think is celebrating events such as these important to employees?

avatar

Bea Pico

Senior Engagement Associate

I personally enjoy these events because they are a form of break from the work day. The opportunity to relax and mingle with fellow employees for an hour or two refreshes our motivation to keep working hard. Just as tutor events are a way to thank our tutors for working hard, the company events make us feel appreciated as well.

Of course, the raffles and games! I also look forward to the various presentations the organizers prepare for the attendees.

These events encourage engagement among co-workers, especially since we have been working remotely for a while now. What engagement activities in your team do you partake in to ensure good working relations?

avatar

Bea Pico

Senior Engagement Associate

Our team always has 100% attendance for term team-building activities. We also have our “office team day”, where we schedule our monthly on-site tasks so we can work together face-to-face. And since the team members share a common love for food, we also eat out when we’re all available to do so.

With your experience both in planning events for tutors and experiencing them as an employee, what takeaways can you share with our readers about the importance of such events?

avatar

Senior Engagement Associate

One of our objectives in tutor events to allow tutors to meet and mingle with their fellow tutors, to make friends and learn more about each other outside of a work environment.

As an employee, it is also important to not be constrained by a strict work relationship with others. It’s also great to interact with each other over something other than tasks and targets. Company events allow us to let loose for a bit and chat freely to establish good relationship amongst each other. Not only does this form new acquaintances, the rapport can also enable us to work together better to provide better services for the company.
