I started working with RareJob Philippines, Inc. February 2017. It will be my 6th year with RJPH this year as a Business Analyst.

My first job was with a start-up company where the working environment was very friendly, flexible, and convenient. Since then, it stuck to me that my next job should have the same environment, and right off the bat, I felt the same atmosphere when I went to the RJPH office for my initial interview. In addition, during my first interview with HR and the succeeding interviews with my possible colleagues, I felt that this company was where I wanted to grow.

Since my first day, it has always been a continuous learning experience, especially because as a Business Analyst, we should be able to adapt to the fast-paced changes in the field of Information Technology and continuously improve on how to deliver quality products in a reasonable amount of time.

Being in this line of work, how did the WFH setup affect your tasks and responsibilities and what do you think are the pros and cons?

At first, it was a bit challenging given that I mostly work with other teams in order to produce an output. Moreover, there are other adjustments or bottlenecks such as having a stable internet connection, maintaining a harmonious working environment, and managing work-life balance. As time goes by, we managed to discuss these concerns and introduced a series of guidelines in order to make the WFH setup work, and as of now, it’s been going well.

During the WFH setup, having meetings is essential in Business Analysis as we coordinate with stakeholders and product team/s regarding the project/s at hand. We need to ensure that the system requirements needed by the company are being developed in order to resolve business problems or build possible opportunities in our products.

What do you think are the most important traits that a Business Analyst should have to be successful in the field?
Pau Torres
Senior Business Analyst
First would be flexibility, since in our field, we should be able to adapt to the processes to keep up with the new forms of product management. Second will be non-stop learning while having fun since work will always be easier when you are learning new techniques or processes while enjoying them. Lastly, having a sense of teamwork, since being a Business Analyst requires us to work with a lot of people to produce a system solution.

From your experience, what skills should a Business Analyst have to be efficient in the role, and how were you able to develop these?

Senior Business Analyst
As a Business Analyst, you should be able to build confidence in terms of communicating with other people since we want to build quality features that will satisfy our customers’ needs. In addition to that, being keen to details is important as well since the goal is not just to improve our products but also satisfy the users’ needs and wants.

Working remotely, what are some of the activities that you do to destress and relax?

I usually do leisure activities in order to keep my mental health intact. To name few, I enjoy playing basketball or computer games, watching series or movies, or just taking a nap.

For those who are interested in being in Business Analysis, in the ESL field or otherwise, what advice can you provide for them to better understand this role, and how they can be successful in it?

Personally, being in the field of Business Analysis is fun and all about non-stop learning. It is fun because seeing users utilize our products and hearing positive feedback makes me happy. Also, in working with different people, you’ll learn a lot of things that will benefit you in the long run, to help you improve and grow more. We also experience non-stop learning because we always want what is best for the company and for our users, so learning new technologies and processes will always be a part of being a Business Analyst.
