Front and Center: Behind the Scenes of Hosting Company Events
Behind The ScenesPart of the RareJob PH experience is attending various events, enjoying the programs, games, and prizes that the company has to offer. Behind the success of any event, of course, are the organizers: those behind the scenes making sure that everything goes smoothly, and the ones at the forefront, engaging the audience and keeping the energy up at all times.
For this month’s Behind The Scenes blog, we are featuring Sam Lautillo, one of RareJob PH’s Applicant Evaluators, and half of this year’s pair of hosts for the Valentine’s Day event! Learn all about her RareJob journey, and how she stepped up in becoming a host in RareJob PH’s employee events.

How long have you been working for RareJob Philippines, Inc.?
Sam Lautillo
Applicant Evaluator
I started my RareJob journey last June 2022. One of my close friends recommended me to try working as an Applicant Evaluator, and I surprisingly got the position! I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for her. Love you sis.
I’m really grateful that RareJob has given me the opportunity to work here because if it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t have had the chance to become the host of the staff’s virtual Halloween event. I wouldn’t have been able to showcase my talent covering a song for our Year End Party, and I definitely wouldn’t have the opportunity to return as a host for our virtual Valentine’s Day event.
There’s actually more that I would love to share, but these are the highlights of my RareJob journey so far. Who knows? More opportunities to come! I’m Manifesting – no – CLAIMING it!

What made you choose RareJob Philippines, Inc., especially since this became your first company?
Sam Lautillo
Applicant Evaluator
I’ve heard a lot of good things about RareJob. I definitely love how the company looks after its employees, and how there are a lot of opportunities for you to grow here as a person and as a professional. I honestly never expected that my first company would be this nurturing. With that said, I would like to take this opportunity to show my deepest gratitude for being a part of RareJob.

As one of the newer members of your team, how has the experience been so far?
Sam Lautillo
Applicant Evaluator
Oh gosh, I definitely love my team! They’re like my second family now. I can never forget how during my first few weeks at RareJob, I was formally addressing our officer-in-charge as Miss and she smack down just told me to call her Ate instead. I was stunned! Everyone in our team is very supportive and understanding.
To show how much I appreciate them, I try my best to “raise the flag” of our team and make our presence somewhat known. LET’S GO TEAM!
Stepping Onto the [Virtual] Stage

Last year, you were also part of the pair of hosts for the virtual Halloween Party. Tell us how you got into hosting, and what made you go for it at that time?
Sam Lautillo
Applicant Evaluator
Yes, I was! It was one of the most memorable events that I’ve experienced here. Up until now I still can’t believe that my partner and I had the opportunity to be the hosts for that event!
As a graduate of Communication Arts Major in New Media, hosting is something that is not new to me. I have been exposed to being on stage ever since I was a kid (not to mention, I love interacting with a lot of people). What made me say yes to that opportunity was because I wanted my team to be proud of me. I mentioned earlier how much I appreciate them so much, and how I wanted to “raise the flag” of our team. That was my motivation back then (I honestly feel shy talking about this because I haven’t mentioned this to them yet; keep what I said a secret?).

With the shift from the theme of phobias from the last year’s Halloween to love grows for this year’s Valentine’s Day celebration, how were you able to prepare yourself in handling the different tones and themes for both events?
Sam Lautillo
Applicant Evaluator
Let me be honest with you all, I’m not even sure how I prepared myself from shifting themes phobias to love grows (haha)! I guess I would have to credit my past experiences when narrating certain stories.
It’s all about the intonation of your voice and how you deliver the message to the audience. There’s a certain time for you to be quirky when the tone of the message is light and casual, and then there’s a time to sound professional when the tone of the message is quite serious or important.
It’s also a good idea to know beforehand what the topic or event would be about, so that you could practice and play around with the intonation of your voice. By doing so, you would know how to control the ambiance of the event (hopefully getting the attention of the audience as well).

From your experience, what are the challenges and benefits in handling online events?
Sam Lautillo
Applicant Evaluator
Handling online events means first, you don’t have to go all out on the attire that you’d be wearing. You can just simply wear a presentable top and slap some makeup on your face, done! Second, you don’t have to worry about the hassle of traveling to the venue of the event, how much it’ll cost you to get there, and of course money for your lunch or dinner. Lastly, you get to host the event at the comforts of your home (well, if you’re working from home like me)! You can literally lay down on your bed or couch to rest while the intermission numbers are playing.
Now the challenging parts of handling these kinds of events are the technical aspects of it really. It’s best to have a back-up internet service provider in the event that your main one suddenly gets disconnected. Always make sure to have your equipment’s battery at 100%. If there’s a power outage, I’m not really sure how to handle those since it’s really an external issue that you wouldn’t be able to just instantly solve.
From my experience being a host for virtual events here in RareJob, I think it’s great that we get the chance to disclaim to the audience that there might be technical difficulties that we might encounter during the event. That way, the audience won’t get too taken aback if ever it happens.
At the end of the day, it’s important that you have fun and deliver the event at your utmost! This would influence how your viewers would feel about the event, and they would probably be more engaged. It won’t only be you who’s going to enjoy the event, but them as well.

Part of an employee’s experience is taking part in various engagement activities such as the ones you’ve hosted. Why do you think are these activities, albeit virtual, important?
Sam Lautillo
Applicant Evaluator
I think virtual or even non-virtual events are important to the company as it is a way for the employees to relax, connect, and socialize with each other. I’m not speaking on behalf of everyone, but I can see how RareJob employees are really working hard.
Especially that some of us are working from home, some are working on-site, these kinds of events are somewhat a space for them to just relax and (probably) win prizes that they truly deserve. It helps not only with our social relationships, but with our mental health as well.

For those who may be presented with the opportunity to host events like these in the future, what tips can you share with them for them to perform at their best?
Sam Lautillo
Applicant Evaluator
If the opportunity presents itself, don’t hesitate and never doubt yourself even if it is outside of your comfort zone. Opportunities like these are few and far between, so grab them and make your presence known.
My two tips to perform at your best in these kinds of events are just be yourself, and enjoy the event! Remember what I stated earlier? “This would influence how your viewers would feel about the event, and they would probably be more engaged with it. It won’t only be you who’s going to enjoy the event, but them as well.” Good luck!
